National Vocational Qualifications

NVQ's offer an effective way of providing development linked to a recognised qualification. NVQ's are work-based and can be undertaken whilst completing normal duties at work, elements of work can then be assessed to the standards of the qualification. This form of development often attracts funding where it is linked to national standards and Investor in People (IiP) accreditation.

Which level is appropriate?

Level 2

At this level, candidates will have a good knowledge of their job role and be effective in achieving agreed objectives. They will usually work within clearly defined parameters and under supervision.

Level 3

At this level, candidates will generally have the authority to exercise their initiative, within agreed parameters. They may also have the responsibility for supervision of others.

Level 4

At this level, candidates will perform a wide variety of complex work, they will have substantial personal responsibility and autonomy and will usually be responsible for the work of others.

Level 5

Candidates at this level will hold senior positions with the organisations. They will be responsible for managing other managers and/or specialists.
